“The Future Ain’t What it Used to Be.” – Yogi Berra

Do you remember the days before Facebook, before smart phones, before the Internet and before you even owned a computer? I do and I’m very grateful to have that perspective which just cannot be conveyed to somebody who was 13 when the iPhone came out.

This video exposes, with over 40,000,000 views, the dystopian side of our tech-saturated world pretty well so it’s worth a look, a share and maybe even logging out of our self-styled media empires for a national day of reflection – sorry Zuck, you know we’ll be back. 😉

We have a lot of awesome things nowadays, but we’re definitely missing a lot of awesome things we used to have that may be gone forever since all of this tech is part of “The Network Effect” popularized in Metcalfe’s Law so even if we give it up, nothing would actually change unless everybody else gives it up too. We know that’s NOT going to happen but maybe technology will bring us full circle to a time where it distracts us less and brings us closer again – we’ll just have to wait and see. What’s in store for us with the next big iteration of social media?

On balance, I’m totally optimistic about the future. The breakthroughs coming our way in nanotechnology, 3-D printing, driverless cars, private space exploration, biotech and all the rest going to be astonishing! What do you think? (Image: Flickr | Photo Extremist)
