What do you do with those handy dandy keywords?

Last time, we pointed you in the direction of the Google Keyword Tool and turned you loose building a list of keywords pertinent to your advertising campaign. Keywords are the building blocks of internet marketing. If you want to work at home, this is a great place to start.

You’ve got your keywords. Now what?

A good point to remember is that not every keyword you find associated with your product is going to be a great one to use in your marketing campaign. You might have noticed during your research that the keyword tool tells you how many people have searched on that particular term during the last month.

Logic tells you to pick the one with the most traffic and go for it – buy a bunch of Google Ads and wait for the cash to pile up. Sorry, not that easy. If you sort your keyword list by traffic, the ones at the top are fought over tooth and nail by competitors. If you’re just starting out, they’ll eat you alive.

More accurately, they’ll eat your bankroll alive.

To survive in the internet marketing world, you need to set your sights a bit lower and focus on keywords with decent traffic but less competition. They are out there. One way to find them is to take a look at how many other web pages your product is competing with.

Next time, we’ll show you a quick and easy way to winnow down your keyword list and find low competition phrases.
