Computer illiteracy is a bad choice for your home-based business

If you plan on living very far into the future, and doing it successfully, you’re going to have to get computer literate. This might seem like a joke to those who have been riding the information superhighway for ten years or longer; those among us already loaded with a PDA, cell phone, and laptop every time they step out of the house.

In the future, the very near future, you won’t be able to turn on a radio or television, answer the telephone, or microwave a bag of popcorn without having computer skills. Not to mention operating an actual computer. All our appliances and tools are being merged into nothing more than node points along which we access a single massive conduit of information.

Don’t even think you can operate a successful home business if you’re not ready to communicate by email, instant messaging, texting, or more. While you may be perfectly happy using your rotary dial telephone for everything business related, it’s a certain bet most of your customers will not. They want to be able to wake up at midnight and send you a note or order something from your website.

Make it hard for them by clinging to prehistoric communication devices and they won’t hate you – they’ll just leave and spend their money elsewhere.
