Mortgaging the future to pay for the present.

We just completed a recent post on mobile home parks, where the topic of affordable housing was brought up. Why is cheap rent still a perennial favorite in America and elsewhere? Seems pretty obvious to us why so many people are stuck in the trailer park.

1. It’s easier to stay anesthetized in front of the television every evening than to sacrifice and work harder to move up in the world.

2. The vast majority of people have no concept of financial discipline and self responsibility.

3. They’re hooked on the narcotic of regular welfare/stimulus checks and will not work even when they can.

4. They’re willing to trade a house to live in for new car payments they can’t afford.

5. They’re in love with buying stuff they don’t need with money they don’t have, tossing everything on the credit card and making minimum monthly payments.

Maybe this kind of investing isn’t glamorous enough for the average portfolio but, wow, it’s easy money and it’s not going anywhere until human nature decides to make a drastic change, and that’s not going to happen any time soon.
