Periodically we revisit the subject of working at home because of the incredibly high regard many people hold for being able to earn a living without trudging in to an office every day. Luckily, the opportunities to choose home employment seem to be growing by the year. Without further ado, let’s take a look at some current favorites.
1. Personal Chef: If you love to cook and are good at it, what’s not to like about this choice of home careers? With both parents working in many families, and finding it more difficult to find time to cook tasty, nutritious meals, what better idea than to step in and save the day? There are several ways to approach delivering this service. You could go into a client’s house and whip up a week’s worth of meals. Another option would be to deliver gourmet meals hot and ready to eat – sort of a twist on the pizza delivery idea.
2. Birthday Party Planning: Once again, this home career choice thrives on the reality that parents have too little time in the day to take care of everything on their plate. And every parent knows that planning a birthday party can be a big pain in the patootie. If you’re creative, like kids, and don’t mind working weekends, what are you waiting for? Come to think of it, why limit yourself to kids’ birthdays? Consider retirement parties, promotions – anywhere someone is looking to celebrate an event could be your golden opportunity.
3. Tutoring Service: You may not consider yourself an academic genius but if you graduated from college and made decent grades, there’s a good chance you’ve got what it takes to help kids with homework, adults how to use a computer, or high school students to write essays. Tutors often earn $25 to $35 an hour and maybe more, depending upon your geographical area. Instead of forcing parents to travel, offer to come into their home and relieve them of the burden of trying to engage their brain after a hard day’s work.
4. Virtual Assistant: A virtual assistant handles phone calls, bookkeeping, and other administrative tasks for busy office who either don’t need a full time receptionist or don’t want to fork over the money in today’s uncertain economy. The virtual assistant is still progressing as a career field, so have a good description ready when pursuing jobs.
If you happen to be one of those people who are miserable working for somebody else eight hours a day and you’ve always wanted to be the driver of your own destiny, kick the traditional job to the curb and build a life for yourself that’s worth living. If others can do it, you can too. Just don’t forget, this is still a job and you have to earn money to eat…
